Training Division
Ballet Pensacola’s Training Division guides young dancers through the years when their technique, artistry, and discipline take shape. Designed by Academy Director Debi Janea, the curriculum draws from the Cecchetti, Vaganova, Bournonville, and Balanchine traditions, among others. Students encounter each tradition’s principles, vocabulary, and movement at a stage suited to their development, building a strong technical foundation while discovering their own artistic voice.
Admission to the Training Division begins with a placement audition, allowing our faculty to understand each new student’s experience and place them in the class where they can grow with confidence and purpose.

Ages 7-8

Pointe
The Training Division builds the strength, technique, and artistry that prepare young dancers for advanced study and, when appropriate, pointe work. Students who have completed Level 1 may enroll in Pre-Pointe. Progression to pointe classes is determined by the Academy Director based on each dancer’s readiness.
Pointe classes require separate enrollment and are NOT included in a dancer’s assigned level or level tuition. Students wishing to audition for the Student Company must be enrolled in pointe classes throughout the academy season.

Modern
Modern broadens a dancer’s movement vocabulary, deepens musicality, and encourages artistic expression. It is an essential part of their preparatory progression.
Modern is introduced at Level 2. After completing one year of Modern 1, students may advance based on an evaluation by their instructor.

Contemporary
Contemporary dance brings together elements of ballet, modern dance, and other movement styles. Through floor work and expressive choreography, students learn to move with greater freedom, connect movement to emotion, and explore ideas drawn from the world around them.
Contemporary is introduced at Level 3 and remains part of each dancer’s training through the completion of the Academy’s Training Division.
