A New Stage for Our Students: Ballet Pensacola Academy Joins Regional Dance America
Ballet Pensacola Academy has officially earned membership in Regional Dance America Southeast, opening a new chapter of opportunity for our students and expanding Ballet Pensacola’s presence within the regional dance community.
The achievement follows our participation as guests at Regional Dance America’s 70th Anniversary Festival this past April. After experiencing the festival alongside established member organizations and completing the qualification process, Ballet Pensacola Academy has now been accepted as an official member of RDA’s Southeast region.
Our journey to membership began a year earlier.
While serving as an adjudicator for RDA’s 69th annual festival, former Ballet Pensacola Artistic Director Darren McIntyre invited Academy Director Debi Janea to join him and experience Regional Dance America firsthand. What began as an introduction quickly revealed an organization whose commitment to artistic excellence, education, and opportunity closely aligned with the aspirations of Ballet Pensacola Academy.
That experience planted the seed for what has now become an important step forward for our students.
For more than 70 years, Regional Dance America has brought dancers, educators, choreographers, and dance organizations together to strengthen the art form through training, performance, mentorship, and professional development. Its annual festivals immerse young dancers in several days of classes with nationally recognized faculty, adjudicated performances, exposure to new choreographic voices, and access to significant scholarship opportunities.
For our dancers, membership means access.
Access to teachers and choreographers beyond their home studios. Access to dancers from across the Southeast who share their discipline and ambition. Access to performance experiences that challenge them artistically. Access to scholarships, educational opportunities, and relationships that can influence where their training takes them next.
It also means something important for Pensacola.
Ballet Pensacola Academy will now have the opportunity to represent our community within a respected regional network of dance organizations, bringing greater visibility to the caliber of training, artistry, and young talent being cultivated here on the Gulf Coast.
As Ballet Pensacola moves toward its 50th Anniversary, we are looking carefully at what it means to prepare the organization for its next generation. For our Academy, that means preserving the strength of the training that has shaped dancers for decades while continually seeking opportunities that broaden their experience and expand what they believe is possible.
RDA membership is part of that vision.
We are proud of the work that brought Ballet Pensacola Academy to this moment, grateful to those who helped open the door, and especially excited for the students who will now have the opportunity to walk through it.
Our dancers train in Pensacola. Their opportunities should have no boundaries.
