Imagination Takes the Stage: Ballet Pensacola at Foo Foo Fest 2026

For a few extraordinary days each year, Foo Foo Fest invites us to see Pensacola through the eyes of its artists. Familiar spaces become places of discovery. Creative disciplines meet. Audiences follow their curiosity into performances they might never have expected to experience. In 2026, Ballet Pensacola is delighted to contribute to that spirit with two events that reveal different dimensions of our work and the creative life of our city.

From November 1–3, our Student Company and Youth Ensemble will present Carnival of the Animals at the Clark Family Cultural Center. On November 4, Ballet Pensacola will join Pensacola Opera for Rock the Runway at the Saenger Theatre. Academy Director Debi Janea will choreograph Carnival of the Animals and facilitate our collaboration with the Opera, bringing her artistic guidance to both experiences.

Camille Saint-Saëns’s Carnival of the Animals has endured because it gives the imagination so much room to play. Its music can be witty, graceful, bold, or wonderfully surprising. In the hands of our young dancers, those musical portraits will become characters expressed through movement. A shift in posture can suggest a creature’s confidence; a quick change of rhythm can reveal its mischief. The pleasure lies in watching the dancers make those choices their own.

The production also offers our Student Company and Youth Ensemble an important artistic challenge. They will be asked to listen closely, inhabit a character, and connect their individual performances to a larger work. These are the experiences through which young dancers begin to discover the kind of artists they can become. We look forward to giving them a stage on which to share that growth with audiences of all ages.

Our collaboration with the Pensacola Humane Society adds a meaningful community dimension to Carnival of the Animals. A performance inspired by the animal kingdom creates a natural opportunity to celebrate the care and compassion shown to animals here in Pensacola. We are grateful to bring the Humane Society into the experience and look forward to sharing more about its participation as the festival approaches.

The following day, the setting shifts to the Saenger Theatre for Rock the Runway with Pensacola Opera. The collaboration invites our dancers into a different kind of creative exchange, one shaped by the energy that emerges when performing arts organizations work together. We are eager to explore what our artists can bring to the occasion and what they can discover through working alongside the Opera again.

These performances offer two distinct invitations to audiences. Carnival of the Animals opens a world of music, character, and possibility through the artistry of our emerging dancers. Rock the Runway brings Ballet Pensacola into conversation with a fellow arts organization on one of Pensacola’s most storied stages. Both are rooted in the belief that art becomes more powerful when it is shared.

We hope you will join us at the Clark Family Cultural Center November 1–3 and at the Saenger Theatre November 4. We cannot wait to see what our dancers, our collaborators, and our audiences discover together at Foo Foo Fest 2026.
